The spokesperson for the state Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the incident occurred in the afternoon around 1.13 pm.
Abdullahi said, “We received a distress call at the Takai Fire Station at around 1.13pm from the Local Government Security Service Unit and we immediately sent our rescue team to the scene around 1.21pm to prevent the inferno from spreading to the other shops. The dimension of the market premises is about 2,000 fit by 1,500 fit. We were able to successfully save about 800 shelters from the fire.”
