The Competition Tribunal issued a notice late Thursday that it had determined the merger was not likely to result in higher prices for wireless customers in Western Canada, and that it was satisfied the plan to sell Shaw's Freedom Mobile to Quebecor Inc.'s Videotron was adequate to ensure competition isn't substantially reduced.
The companies also thanked the Tribunal for its swift decision, as they had set a closing date for the deal of Dec. 31, but they said Friday they had extended the close to Jan. 31, 2023. In a summary of its decision, the Tribunal said Videotron's entry into Western Canada would be able to offer prices at least as competitive as what was offered before the merger, while overall the deal is also likely to spur increased competition among the three major telecoms companies in the region.
Fuck this shit, how about open the doors to American companies and more competition so we can end being ripped off every month.
No!
Govt and the tribunal are all hand in glove to kill the competition and to make sure we keep paying highest rates in the world for cellular and cable services, kudos!
So glad I am not a Rogers or Shaw customer.
MORE MONOPOLIES I LOVE CORPORATE CANADA
Nothing new for Canada. It sucks when it comes to competition and choice. In this case thia what dictatorship looks like when it comes to choice.
Great. More oligopoly, less competition, higher prices and Robber spreading their garbage-water service to more people. Just what we need! We already pay the highest telecom costs in NA. But sure, let's give Robbers more money.
Stop the deal unless Rogers lowers all rates by 25% and a freeze on increase for 10 years
THIS IS A MISTAKE WONDER HOW MUCH GRAFT WAS INVOLVED IN THIS DEAL ?
Yes the oligopoly needs less competition. Our government working to ensure we have the highest cellular, cable & internet bills in the world. We need more competition not less.
Keep Freedom mobile independent
I hope this can benefit to the customers, bc the price for the cable TV and internet gone sky high
This is an absolute joke. This is proof that democracy means fuck all. It means the FCC is fucking useless.
I doubt the staff at Shaw are excited. There will be price increases and staff cuts that will make your head spin.
