The Florida Theatre has expanded its public space for the first time in 95 years, with the addition of the Remedy Lounge, a new VIP lounge strictly for Theatre members.
The new lounge, located on the second-floor lobby of the theater, has repurposed the formerly vacant space once used as an office area. This project began in June, with construction wrapping up fully by January, a fairly quick turnaround for the historical space, which Saisselin credits to the team working on the endeavor. The theater was built in 1927 by Robert E. Hall and Roy Benjamin, who joined a firm that is now KBJ Architects – the firm that designed the Remedy Lounge and has worked with the Florida Theatre in the '80s when it was transformed from a cinema to a performing arts venue.
The capital improvement plan has been funded by private donations, a restoration fee from ticket sales and a matching grant from the City of Jacksonville’s capital improvement budget.
