In her role, Lopez evolves the system’s culture. BSW’s new vision embraces empowerment while a new value focuses on impact, and both resonate with DEI, she said.What opportunity for your company over the next year has you most excited? We are empowering team members to make an impact. The diversity councils that we have in place are implementing DEI strategies and tactics at a local level. They’re nimble and able to quickly adapt to meet the needs of fellow team members.Experiences — for customers and team members — matter. For example, companies that prioritize team member experiences have higher customer loyalty and perform better across a host of measures.

How important is a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce to your company’s success, and how do you keep that at the forefront? It is foundational. I championed the Board of Trustees endorsing the system’s first DEI Commitment statement and two focus areas with metrics. Having metrics in place means it is more than aspirational, and it’s a way to measure progress.
