Nearly two months after Twitter announced it would start allowing political ads again, the company says it has no paid political advertisers yet.

The platform’s new ad verification process and disclosure mechanisms are rudimentary so far, relying on both potential advertisers and members of the public to fill out a form hosted by Google, unusual for a tech company that would typically be expected to build most of its own web features. “It’s been several years since political advertisers have used Twitter, so it’s not just in our muscle memory or our toolbox in the way that some other things would be,” said Eric Wilson, a Republican digital strategist and director of the Center for Campaign Innovation, which studies campaign practices. “And then there is a lot of uncertainty about Twitter and who is using it.”, with then-CEO Jack Dorsey saying political message reach should be “earned, not bought.

But campaigns also have to consider some of the “brand safety” issues that have caused other advertisers to leave or reconsider their presence on the platform, said Mike Jablonowski, president of DS Political, a digital advertising firm that works with Democratic candidates and causes.

Certainly would be a terrible business decision and could very likely backfire big time. Many already boycott products/goods/services for those supporting known lies and conspiracies. I personally know many and based on social media we all see what people do & not do.

Why would they pay? He’s let all the right wing conspiracy theoriists and misinformation back on for free.🤷‍♂️
