Port Adelaide recruit Esava Ratugolea has been roasted for a bizarre play during the Power’s AFL clash against Melbourne on Saturday night. The defender appeared certain to stop a Kysaiah Pickett goal, but inexplicably misjudged the ball when he was completely on his own in the goalsquare.
Ratugolea’s bizarre goal-line blunder. Pickett had marked on a tight angle and attempted to snap a goal from about 35m out. Ratugolea was surprisingly the only player on the goal-line and appeared certain to take an uncontested mark with Pickett’s shot dropping short. But the defender bizarrely took two steps back and tried to take a chest mark, only to spill the ball over the line. He initially thought he had touched it before the line, but replays showed it was clearly a goal.
