Resolutions have been introduced in the state legislature to urge Congress to pass an amendment granting Congress and states the ability to regulate and limit contributions and spending in campaigns, elections or ballot issues. To date, Powell said 22 states have passed resolutions calling on Congress to act on this proposed amendment.
A 2023 Franklin & Marshall College Poll found most Pennsylvanians agree with Waxman. Some 93% of voters believe the influence of money in politics is a threat to democracy and 84% support limiting the amount of money individual and entities can contribute to political campaigns, according to the poll.
