Restoring the city’s tree canopy is about more than aesthetics, though. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in one year a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and emit oxygen in exchange. Keep Akron Beautiful is asking community members and businesses to pitch in – planting native trees on their own properties to help it reach its goal.
