A Dauphin County fire company is no longer allowed to serve the community after allegations of racial discrimination at its affiliated social club.Three Swatara Township commissioners voted Wednesday to remove Friendship Fire Company of Bressler as an emergency services provider, and two abstained.A report presented at the meeting revealed that despite past disciplinary action meant to curb racial issues, they have continued.
'I think the majority of this board is too quick to close a firehouse again, and I am not for that,' Commissioner Michael Tuckey said.Some residents feel the closing of a fire company would pose a risk to public safety.A resident and firefighter said, 'Our duty is to serve and protect. Your duty as the commissioners here is to serve and protect your community and your residents, and you're doing nothing but closing down fire companies. That's wrong.
