Richmond youngster Sam Banks has been stretchered off after a sickening concussion against the Western Bulldogs. Midway through the third quarter, Banks went back with the flight and was inadvertently flipped before landing on his head. Western Bulldogs ruck Tim English had been pushed into Banks from behind but lost his footing so ended up making contact the Tiger’s legs, which resulted in him being flipped. The 21-year-old lay on the ground motionless as medical staff rushed to attend to him.
And immediate, the response, as well. Thankfully, in some ways, it happened so close to the bench that the medical team could get out there within a split second. “It was very obvious to all that the stretcher was going to be required straight away.” Channel 7 boundary commentator Cameron Ling provided an encouraging update during the three-quarter time break. “The club has told us that he is awake, he is doing OK, he’s down in the rooms, still at the ground,” he said.
