A private lunch with West Coast rising star Harley Reid and his No.9 predecessor Nic Naitanui has sold for an eye-watering $110,000 at auction. The exclusive date was on offer at a fundraiser for Telethon, which delivered $5.7 million in total. Incredibly, the bidding war for the lunch with Reid and Naitanui took 27 rounds to settle on its final six-figure total. The $110,000 price is further proof that Reid has emerged as the Eagles’ new champion less than a year into his AFL career.
Naitanui handed it over to Reid as soon as he was drafted in November. And Reid has followed in the ruckman’s footsteps since with an enviable highlight reel that perhaps reached its peak against the Demons. The 19-year-old produced a goal-of-the-year contender by burning off Christian Petracca with three bounces before kicking truly from 45m. Later, he fended off Clayton Oliver and Petracca in a magical piece of play to set up a goal for Jack Darling.
