Property developer Sam Beck started KARVE Marine after struggling to find a boat that was sufficiently fast and resilient to tough weather, while still having recreational features.After a global search, he realised he couldn’t find what he was looking for, so he teamed up with two partners, Melbourne marketer Travis Atkins and Tyburn Pastoral Company’s Craig Reynolds, to launch a custom boat-building company, KARVE Marine.
The first boat in production is designed to meet all the requirements Mr Beck couldn’t find in his search for his own boat. KARVE 50, a 15.25-metre aluminium catamaran, powered by quad 600 horsepower outboard engines and with a top speed of up to 70 knots, is expected to be ready early next year.It looks like a military boat, but it has recreational upgrades, Mr Beck said. And if you want one like it, you’ll need to be able to fund the $2.3 million price tag.
While the intention is for KARVE Marine to be a profitable company, for Mr Beck it is a hobby business – something he primarily does for enjoyment.
