Fans are in “genuine shock” after reports emerged that Australian selectors have left champion hockey player Rosie Malone out of the team flying to the Olympics. News about the shock snubbing of the 26-year-old Aussie striker was first revealed by journalist and podcaster Tracey Holmes on X . “I have learned one of the world’s great hockey players, Rosie Malone, has been excluded from the Hockeyroos team to be named next week for Paris 2024,” Holmes said.
Hockey Australia would not comment about Malone, but it has since been reported that Malone is planning to appeal the decision. Malone, was considered a lock for the team given other strikers have been battling through injury and she has played in all but one of Australia’s matches this year. Malone has also represented the Hockeyroos at the 2021 Olympics, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the gold medal-winning team in the 2023 Oceania Cup.
