A warning has been issued against the consumption of “mushroom” gummies after at least five people were hospitalised with symptoms such as hallucinations, anxiety and vomiting. The NSW Chief Health Officer issued the warning for the cordyceps and lion’s mane varieties of the Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies on Wednesday. Since April at least five people have been treated in NSW hospitals after eating the gummies, with hospitalisations also recorded interstate.
The patients presented to hospital “experiencing unexpected toxicity”, the Chief Health Officer said, with symptoms including: Medical Director of the NSW Poisons Information Centre Dr Darren Roberts urged those who had purchased the gummies to not consume them. “Investigations are ongoing as to what these products contain. We are strongly recommending that people do not consume these products,” he said. A recall alert for the products has also been issued.
