A couple whose house was destroyed when a tree fell on it in Melbourne storms have revealed they were preparing to sell the property in the coming weeks. John Rayner was in his lounge room at the home on Saville St in Ferny Creek just after 11pm on Monday when there was a “mighty big crash” when the 100-year-old tree came crashing down. “The whole roof completely came in on top of me. Not just the ceiling, the whole roof,” he told 7NEWS.
” Rayner was worried about his wife who was asleep in bed at the time and he managed to make it to the bedroom through the wreckage. Fortunately, his wife was OK as “everything fell around her”. The couple suffered minor cuts and grazes in the terrifying incident, but their home was completely destroyed. In another blow, Rayner revealed the couple were in the process of getting their home ready to sell after being there for 25 years.
