The robbers opened fire on security and police officers.

Two people have been wounded after 15 robbers armed with AK47 rifles, opened fire during a jewellery store robbery in Phoenix Plaza, north of Durban.

Prem Balram, from private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa, says the robbers then used three getaway vehicles to escape. This comes amid KZN SAPS shooting and killing nine alleged suspects in crime intelligence operations in a space of four days. While many have accused the SAPS of being heavy-handed, some civilians claim this is the approach needed to ensure safety and security in the province.
