"It's absolutely in the interest of producers and everyone along the supply chain that those cattle arrive at their destination in very good shape. That's clearly not been the expectation of producers or others in the value chain in the live sheep trade.

Putting animal welfare aside, the industry appears devoid of economists as the returns for value added, locally slaughtered, boxed, chilled meat is far in excess than the returns from live export. More markets are open as well.
