A fast-moving fire tore through the Herald Square holiday market early Monday morning, destroying several vendor booths and leaving small business owners scrambling to salvage their holiday season.The FDNY said the fire happened around 4 a.m. along Broadway between 35th and 36th Streets on Monday.Sixty firefighters and EMS crews responded to the scene. One firefighter sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
"Other people are dependent on us. It’s terrible," he said.The firefighter who was seriously injured has been taken to the hospital.Urban Space, the company that oversees the market, called the incident a "devastating moment" for vendors. "This is a devastating moment for our market family, especially during what should be a joyful holiday season," the company said in a statement.
