Athletes are used to making winning moves on the field; now many of them are continuing their success off the field in the cannabis industry.
Retired pro-athletes are flocking to the industry, making big investments and launching either cannabis and/or CBD wellness brands. So why are athletes rushing to the cannabis industry? Some suggest that pro-sports players face a higher risk of long-term health issues as a result of their careers, and that some such athletes use prescription opioids long after being out of the game.
Cote reports that many players struggle with their identity following retirement. The NHL ambassador for Athletes for CARE shares that that searching for a new purpose may also be one of the reasons retired athletes are attracted to the cannabis industry. The industry offers the win-win of helping athletes rebuild their focus and be a part of a smart business strategy.
“This is all for the greater good of all people,” Cote said. “So, why not hop on the bandwagon and be a part of it in some capacity? Use your skill set. It doesn’t matter what you’re good at; you can intersect that with the cannabis space and healing.”Want to keep up to date on what’s happening in the world of cannabis?
