Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until 05:00 on Saturday, Eskom said on Friday afternoon. This comes as breakdowns have increased to 15 388MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance increased to 7 169MW.
This will continue until 16:00 on Thursday, when previously communicated load shedding schedules will resume, it said. For the first time in more than two weeks, South Africa will be hit by Stage 4 load shedding, which is currently planned for Thursday evening. Over the past 24 hours, a generation unit was returned to service at Duvha Power Station. In the same period, a generating unit each at Lethabo, Kendal and Kriel power stations was taken offline for repairs. The delays in returning a unit to service at Hendrina, Medupi and two units at Tutuka power stations have contributed to the capacity constraints, Eskom said in a statement.
On Sunday afternoon, however, Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 16:00 on Monday. The power utility said in a short announcement that this was due to"significantly lower than anticipated demand for electricity." Load shedding remains suspended until Monday morning, when Stage 1 will be implemented
In a follow-up message, Eskom said this meant that Stage 2 will not be implemented on Sunday evening as had previously been communicated. * This update has been corrected with new information not initially communicated by Eskom. Load shedding will be suspended on Sunday, Eskom said, but it's a short reprieve as Stage 1 and Stage 2 will be implemented intermittently thereafter.
Eskom will provide an update as soon as any significant changes occur, the utility said in a statement.Due to some improvements in the generation capacity over the past 24 hours, Stage 3 load shedding will remain in force until further notice, Eskom announced on Wednesday afternoon. A generating unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei, Kriel, and Tutuka power stations has been returned to service. During the same period a generating unit each at Lethabo, and two units at Kriel power stations were taken offline for repairs. The return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina and Medupi power stations is delayed.
Eskom said that over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Arnot Power Station was successfully returned to service. The return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Medupi and Tutuka, power stations has been delayed. The repairs to the damaged towers from Cahora Bassa in Mozambique are continuing and are anticipated to be completed by early next week, Eskom said.
A generating unit each at Camden, Lethabo, Kriel, Majuba and Matimba power stations has been successfully returned to service during this period. Furthermore, the return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Medupi and Tutuka power stations was delayed, and the repairs to the damaged towers from Cahora Bassa is taking longer than anticipated, Eskom said. After 05:00 on Tuesday, load shedding will be reduced to Stage 3 until 16:00. Stage 4 will then be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday morning, Eskom said.
I don't know where Eskom got my address, but I get preferential loadshedding! Every time a new stage is implemented, I immediately get loadshedded, even if I just had two hours with no power under the previous stage...🤬
Why is there load shedding? De Ruyter is gone and minister of electricity said there is no corruption so is ask 'what now?'
Maybe there needs to be a protest weekly.. quite a coincident that we were on stage 1 leading to the “failed protest”. ANC doesn’t know that the next protest probably wont be planned, it would just erupt. . They won the battle but not the war..
