Sky News Political Editor aclennell says the main issue with the federal government using gas as a platform for kickstarting onshore manufacturing is “what companies are charging manufacturers”.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the main issue with the federal government using gas as a platform for kickstarting onshore manufacturing is “what companies are charging manufacturers”. Mr Morrison on Thursday announced a $1.5 billion manufacturing plan to assist pandemic recovery, which will see investments in six key areas. During a pre-budget speech to the National Press Club, Mr Morrison touted the government’s gas-fired recovery plan.

“Gas prices have already come down to around $4 per gigajoule but long-term contracts gas companies are entering into with manufacturers remain at $7 to $8 a gigajoule". Mr Clennell revealed comments made from Australian businesses to the ACCC this year following the coronavirus pandemic.
